The G90 BMW M5 is the sixth-generation super-sedan and the first M5 built as a plug-in hybrid, sharing its M HYBRID drive system with the XM. A 4.4-liter S68 twin-turbo V8 (577 hp) combines with a gearbox-integrated electric motor (194 hp) for a peak system output of 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, channeled through an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic and M xDrive all-wheel drive. BMW quotes 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a 155-mph top speed (190 mph with the M Driver's Package), while the 14.8-kWh underfloor battery delivers about 25 miles of EPA all-electric range. The hybrid hardware also makes it the heaviest M5 ever at roughly 5,390 lb, a trade BMW accepted to keep the V8 alive under tightening emissions rules.
