The M5 Touring revives the estate body that BMW M last offered on the E61, and for the first time brings it to the United States. Its plug-in-hybrid powertrain combines the 4.4-liter S68 twin-turbo V8 (577 hp) with an electric motor (194 hp) integrated into the 8-speed automatic for 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of combined output, fed by a roughly 15-kWh battery good for an EPA-estimated 25 miles of electric driving. Despite a hefty 5,481-lb curb weight, Car and Driver clocked 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and the quarter mile in 11.0 seconds. M xDrive with a rear-biased, rear-drive-selectable mode keeps the wagon's handling balanced; top speed is a manufacturer-quoted 190 mph with the M Driver's Package.
