Introduced for the 2021 model year as the open-top member of the second-generation 4 Series, the G23 BMW M440i xDrive Convertible swaps the previous generation's folding hardtop for a lighter, more compact fabric roof. Its B58 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system whose belt-driven starter-generator adds an 11-hp electric boost; for the 2025 model year Car and Driver rates the combination at 386 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. Power reaches all four wheels through a ZF eight-speed Steptronic automatic and standard xDrive, and top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. It is positioned as a refined four-seat grand-touring cabriolet rather than an outright sports car, leaving the hardcore performance role to the M4 Convertible.
