Launched for 2022 and carried into the 2025 model year, the G42 230i Coupe is BMW's compact rear-wheel-drive two-door, built on the CLAR platform it shares with the larger 3 and 4 Series rather than the front-drive architecture of the four-door 2 Series Gran Coupe. Its B48 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft, driving the rear wheels through a ZF 8-speed Steptronic automatic. BMW quotes 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds, and Car and Driver's instrumented test of the equivalent 230i bettered that at 5.1 seconds with a 155-mph governed top speed. It remains a classically balanced near-50/50 sports coupe, slotting beneath the M240i and M2 in the lineup.
