The 2025 BMW 540i xDrive is the inline-six gasoline range-topper of the G60 5 Series, sitting on BMW's CLAR architecture beneath the V8 M5. Its B58 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six makes 375 hp and 398 lb-ft, augmented by a 48-volt mild-hybrid integrated starter-generator that adds momentary boost and smooths stop-start, with drive routed through a ZF 8-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive. Car and Driver instrumented the 540i xDrive at 4.0 seconds to 60 mph, through the quarter-mile in 12.5 seconds at 111 mph, and to a governor-limited 152 mph, while the EPA rates it at 28 mpg combined. It is the long, technology-laden everyday luxury sedan in the lineup rather than a dedicated performance halo.
